Arneide Bandeira Cemin
was born in 1955 in Guajará Mirim (RO). She received her Bachelors
in History from the Universidade Federal de Rondônia (UINR). She
obtained her Masters Sociology from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande
do Sul (UFRGS) with her thesis entitled, "Colonização
e Natureza (análise da relação social do homem com
a natureza na colonização agrícola em Rondônia)"
[Colonialization and Nature (analysis of the social relationship of man
with nature in the agricultural colonialization of Rondonia)]; in which
she analyzed how a peasantry originating in regions of mechanized agriculture
were inserted in the environment of the Amazon Rainforest, including a
study of the social movement of landless farmers. She obtained her Doctorate
in Social Anthropology from the University of São Paulo (USP) with
the thesis entitled "Ordem, Xamanismo e Dádiva - O poder do
Santo Daime" (Order, Shamanism and Offering – The power of
Santo Daime), wherein she studied how the ritual use of ayahuasca produces
an understanding of the imaginary of Amazon religiosity that, in this
case, configures forms of socialization founded in the reciprocity of
give-and-take, in complete contrast with mercantile exchange; identifying
the narrative community ( of Santo Daime, in which she denominated the
power of the narrative and the power of the narrator) with an oral base
in transit for the domain of written culture. She also investigated the
importance of gender to the division of labor in the realm of the sacred;
also contributing to the Theory of Ritual, understanding it as a productive
device of subjectivity. She is a professor in the masters program in Regional
Development and the Environment and a researcher at the Center for Imaginary
Studies – CEI/UNIR, where she participates in the collaborative
project “Rondônia – Technologies of the Imaginary, Frontiers
of Colonialization and Violence,” for which she investigates the
relationships between gender, work and the environment. In the last few
years she has been developing research that aims to understand the phenomenon
of gender violence in a broad sense with an emphasis in analysis of the
family, the social network, the day-to-day and of the imaginary. She works
as the editor of the electronic magazine, Labirinto, as well as holding
other positions in CEI/UNIR.
