José Ricardo Gallina
graduated
in psychology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)
in Porto Alegre in 1988. In the following year he resided in São
Paulo, where he worked as a clinical psychologist in the outpatient clinic
of the State Government’s Unit of Basic Health. Between 1993 and
1997 he developed studies and programs for the evaluation and treatment
of drug-dependents in different institutions. He worked in the Institute
of Community Psychiatry (IPC) – the Estância do Sol Unit –
for the chemically dependent, he participated in activities for the Program
for Guidance and Attendance in Drug Dependence (PROAD) of the Paulista
School of Medicine (CEBRID), on top of his private clinical practice.
From 1997 to 2000 he actively participated in seminars and courses of
the Institute of Psychoanalytic Research (IPP) of the Brazilian School
of Psychoanalysis (EBP-SP), contributing to the Group for Drug Dependence
and undertaking his own analysis. He obtained his Masters in Communications
in the area of Journalism and Language Sciences from the School of Communications
and the Arts (ECA) of the University of São Paulo (USP). His dissertation
analyzed the discourses and signifiers circulated via widespread press
on the consumption of psychoactive substances in Brazilian society.
