Isabel Santana de Rose was born in 1980. She graduated in Social Sciences from Unicamp. As an undergrad she began her studies on Santo Daime and wrote her senior thesis, “A cura na doutrina do Santo Daime – Um estudo sobre o Céu da Mantiqueira” (Curing in the doctrine of Santo Daime – A study of Céu da Mantiqueira). She continued this research for her Masters in Social Anthropology at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. During her masters she further developed the discussion of curing and therapeutic practices in Santo Daime, and in the beginning of 2005 she defended her thesis, “Espiritualidade, terapia e cura – Um estudo sobre a expressão da experiência no Santo Daime” (Spirituality, therapy and curing – A study of the expression of experience in Santo Daime). She is currently undertaking her doctorate in Social Anthropology at the same university and is participating in the research group “Trajetórias e itinerários no contexto do uso de drogas em Santa Catarina” (Trajectories and Intineraries in the context of drug use in Santa Catarina), which is tied to the Laboratório de Estudo de Violências (LEVIS) of the Anthropology Department of UFSC.
