Jardel Fischer Loeck
was born in Pelotas (RS) in 1983. He obtained he
Bachelors in Social Sciences from the Universidade Estadual de Londrina
(UEL) in 2005. Since the beginning of his undergraduate studies, he tended
towards anthropology and the theme of drug use in contemporary societies.
His senior thesis was titled “A relação entre estigma
e adicção: etnografia de um grupo de Narcóticos Anônimos”
(The relation between stigma and addiction: an ethnography of a group
of Narcotics Anonymous). In the thesis, he attempted to, via participant
observation, verify in what way the stigma attributed to illicit drug
users could or not be deconstructed upon entering Narcotics Anonymous.
He is currently doing his Masters in Social Anthropology from the Universidade
Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and his dissertation will discuss
the nuances between “controlled use” of drugs and “chemical
dependency,” by looking at the individual representations related
to the topic and supplied by current and ex-drug users.
