was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1970. He lives in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina state, with his wife and son. He holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1994), a master's in Social Anthropology from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2000). He earned a PhD. in Human Sciences/Consciousness and Spirituality from the Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center (2006), with a thesis entitled "Images of Healing: spontaneous mental imagery and healing process of the Barquinha, a Brazilian ayahuasca religious system." His research is focused on intersection of the anthropology of consciousness and the anthropology of health. He is currently developing a post-doctoral project under the guidance of Jean Langdon at the Federal University of Santa Catarina with the title “A study of the therapeutic use of ayahuasca among homeless people in the city of São Paulo” .
