Stella Pereira de Almeida
was
born in São Paulo in 1963. From 1986 to 1988 he did research with
marijuana users and held internships in centers for drug studies. He graduated
with a Bachelors in Psychology from USP in 1988. In 1989 he started working
in private practice to treat drug users and between 1989 and 1992 he was
the coordinator of the drug use treatment clinic “Estância
do Sol.” From 1993 to 1996 he took part in the central team of the
project “Escola é Vida” – Secretary of Education
of the State of São Paulo, for which he worked on drug prevention
in schools. In 1999 he participated in the implantation of Associação
Lua Novo – an NGO that works with young and expecting mothers in
high risk situations. In 1996 he began his Masters at the Psychology Institute
of USP (Department of Experimental Psychology) and finished in 2000 after
completing the first study of Brazilian ecstasy users. He continued the
work for his Masters in his Doctorate, finished in 2005, in the Department
of Neurosciences and Behavior at IP-USP where he led on-line research
on ecstasy users. He is currently a post-doc at IP-USP and is developing
a project for harm reduction for the use of “Baladaboa” ecstasy
in the Laboratório de Psicofamacologia.
