earned her Bachelors
in Sociology from the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) in 1998. She
specialized in Social Communication at the Universidade do Estado da Bahia
(UNEB) in 2003 and went on to earn a Masters in Social Sciences at UFBA
in August of 2005. She is currently a resident in the Multiprofessional
Residency Program on Mental Health at the Public Health Institute of UFBA
(Instituto de Saúde Coletiva / ISC - UFBA). During university,
she collaborated on a research project financed by CNPQ / PIBIC and run
by The Group for Studies in the Social Sciences and Health (Núcleo

thesis under the orientation of Doctor Miriam Rabelo, Adriana researched
the recovery process from drug addiction at an anonymous brotherhood (narcotics
anonymous). For her Master's degree under the orientation of Doctor Edson
Farias, she researched the relationship between contemporary consumption
and identity. Currently, she is beginning to investigate questions related
to the dynamics of the electronic music scene of Salvador (the city where
lives), a subject that she aims to pursue in her next academic degree.
Outside of her academic pursuits, Adriana Prates is a House Music DJ and
member of Pragatecno (www.pragatecno.com.br), a group of DJs, promoters
and graphic artists who have pioneered the promotion of electronic music
in the Brazilian North and Northwest since 1998. She is a volunteer member
of Balance, the first South American collective created with the goal
of promoting harm reduction for psychoactive drug use within the electronic
music scene. Publications: PRATES, Adriana . Tornando-se adicto. In: SOARES, Geraldo Ramos (Org.). Tabuleiro de Talentos: 12 jovens cientistas sociais desvendam a Bahia.Salvador: ASEB, 2000, p. 39-57. >>início
